Having made a name for himself back in the ’90s in U.S. teen drama My So Called Life, Jared Leto is now ranked among the most iconic rock stars of our era. So while you may not have heard of The Pretty Reckless yet, the band’s 16-year-old singer Taylor Momsen could well be set to follow in the 30 Seconds To Mars frontman’s footsteps.

In case you’ve been living on another plane for the past three years, Taylor is one of the stars of hit U.S. TV show Gossip Girl. However,like Jared, her true passion has always been music.
“Making a record is more than a dream of mine, it’s a need and necessity” she states with disarming sincerity. “I’ve been writing songs since I was five, and no matter how big our record becomes, I just want to play and sing and write.”

Listing their influences as Courtney Love, Nirvana and Led Zeppelin, The Pretty Reckless completed by guitarist Ben Phillips, bassist Mark Damon and drummer Jamie Perkins – recorded their forthcoming debut album last year with producer Kato Khandwala, who has previously worked with All Time Low, Paramore and Madina Lake. With the prontwoman’s filming commitments taking up a lot of her time, the record became a true labour of love.

“I’d be shooting all day and the going to work on the record starting at midnight untile five in the morning,” says Taylor. “It was spread out over a year, and when we finished it really was a case of ‘Wow, the record’s done, finally!’.”

The World’s first taster of The Pretty Reckless takes the form of their gritty, snarling new single Make Me Wanna Die, taken from the recent Kick-Ass soundtrack.
Having racked up an impressive number of plays on big name radio stations around the globe, the band are determined to make their dream of rock stardom a reality.

“We’re playing the whole of the Warped Tour, and I’m going to work around my filming schedule so we can tour as much as is physically possible”, Taylor enthuses. “We want to play to the UK so badly, I cannot tell you! Our favourite bands are English so we can’t wait to come over!”

“Make Me Wanna Die” introduces The Pretty Reckless to the world. In the video, lead singer Taylor Momsen finds herself in the middle of a chaotic, cold and mysterious New York City after leaving a performance. The 18-carat yellow gold Piaget Polo watch and new Possession Celebration rings adorn Momsen during the video. Multiple other Possession rings and necklaces as well as the Piaget Polo watch, one of Piaget’s iconic timepiece, accentuate Momsen’s rock-star look and help define her glamorous yet edgy appeal.

“Make Me Wanna Die” will be available on broadcast and on-line outlets in early May. The Pretty Reckless will be joining US rock music festivals– The Warp Tour in 2010– and plans to release their debut album in Summer 2010.

All pieces featured in the new video are available at Piaget boutiques and select retailers nationwide. The Possession Celebration rings were specifically launched this year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the line.

Taylor Momsen Loves Having Music Control

Taylor Momsen doesn't understand how some people can sing songs penned by record companies.

Taylor Momsen says appearing on a TV talent show would have "destroyed" her.

The 16-year-old is well known for her part as Jenny Humphrey in US drama Gossip Girl, and also fronts rock band The Pretty Reckless. She loves music and singing, but insists she would never have tried out for a show like American Idol or The X Factor as she would have hated it.

"I doubt I would have done one of those shows, because I'm involved in everything, am too opinionated and care too much to hand over control," she explained. "I have to have my say, so a show like that would probably have destroyed me. I can't face the world with a record that isn't totally me and that I'm not totally confident with, because my music is who I am."

Taylor says she is different to a lot of artists because she writes all her own songs and is involved with every aspect of her career. She doesn't understand how some people can sing tracks penned by others, as she has to feel the emotions to make it sound believable.?"You're hearing my voice and my words," she told Company magazine. "People who have a label writing their songs and telling them how to dress are doing it for fame and money. I think that's bad."

The Pretty Reckless is not your average rock band if we put aside the leather pants and the smudged eyeliner.

They make the NYC indie kids go gaga with a debut album that is yet to hit music stores and its lead singer Taylor Momsen is the hottest rocker chick on the scene….Skinny, blonde and barely sixteen.

This New York-based MySpace sensation has already scored a major record deal and a main track Make Me Wanna Die featured in the smash box-office hit Kick-Ass movie soundtrack.

The band was formed by Momsen in 2009 and their grungy messy look and sassy sexy lyrics have captured a hipster audience that wants to break free from commercial pop music and the cheesy Hannah Montanas of the industry.

Indeed this Kick-Ass hit shelves Momsen’s child star image as she sings “Show me all the things that I shouldn’t know.Taste me. Drink my soul.” while wearing suspenders, red lips and fish net tights. Some parents might actually think its time to lock up their daughters and burn their Ipods too.
The reckless playlist continues with a mix of good and bad romances in Blender and He Loves You also written by Momsen as she reads “I’ll make you lalalala lovesick. I don’t lalala like you. I lalala love you. So do you wanna get to know me?” turning Blender into an upbeat rock track that gives Disney’s rocker Demi Lovato a ru n for her money.

However romance turns bittersweet in He Loves You where Momsen pulls off a fantastic vocal performance going from screaming and shouting to whispering in your ear “If he loves you when you’re dead and gone…Kiss a kiss a killer kitty play along”. Fellow band mates Ben Philips, Mark Damon and Jamie Perkins follow Momsen on the guitar, bass and drums respectively.
The band’s darkest track Zombie is an emo anthem in true Paramore style that coud easily make it on the next Twilight Saga soundtrack and have thousands of teens singing along in tears “I’m wandering through existence with no purpose and no drive. To all the people left behind, you’re walking dumb and blind”. Oh yes, adolescence is a pretty rough time.

The Pretty Reckless toured last summer across the United States with rocker twin sisters duo The Veronicas proving that girlie rock can still make it to the top . The band was also named Band of the Day by the Guardian’s music critic Paul Lester and it has already scored a Song of the Day in Fearne Cotton’s BBC Radio 1 music show.

There is no doubt that much of the band’s early success belongs to Momsen who’s a TV star by day and a rock star by night leaving behind her angelic blonde looks to become a hot mess a la Courtney Love.
She brings the hype, the looks and the fame to The Pretty Reckless and tops it off with her own lyrics and her surprisingly good vocals. Who knew a 16-year-old girl could scream like that?
The Gossip Girl has stepped up to her critics to prove that there’s some authenticity to her music even if her lyrics are based for the most part on rock clichés such as rebellion, drugs and crazed up love.

How much can a teen girl with model looks, a hit US show and millions on the bank know about the hard life?
But funnily enough it turns out that Momsen can sing and write catchy songs as a 16-year-old star who aspires to rock on the same league as Juliette Lewis, Shirley Mason and her music heroine Courtney Love.
Love her or hate her, Taylor Momsen is a breath of fresh air amongst a legion of prefabricated pop such as Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus or the Jonas Brothers who dominate the airwaves these days.

The Pretty Reckless tracks include: Heart, Panic, Sleeze Sister, Void & Dull, Ugly People, Good Girls, Bleeding, Superhero and Chaotic Sanity.
The band has signed to Interscope Records and will be realised their full album later in 2010.

‘Gossip Girl’ star Taylor Momsen talks her debut single, upcoming album and why she doesn’t like pants!

Actress Taylor Momsen is best known to audiences as Gossip Girl’s rebellious Jenny Humphrey. But the 16-year-old is hoping that soon people will also see her as a rock star. Momsen and her band, the Pretty Reckless, are set to drop their debut album this summer and have recently released their first single, “Make Me Wanna Die,” which is on the Kick-Ass soundtrack. EW chatted with Momsen about this new career path.

EW: Your band, the Pretty Reckless, has a song (“Make Me Wanna Die”) on the Kick-Ass soundtrack.
Taylor Momsen: It’s a tragic love song. It’s Romeo and Juliet — can’t live without your lover so you die. It’s the Pretty Reckless’ first single. We just shot a video for it, but I don’t wanna say too much. It fits the song. It’s very dark.

EW: How’s the album progressing?
TM: It’s coming out this summer. We wrote it as a record, so every song is part of a bigger thing. I don’t know—I just want people to hear it!

EW: Who would you say is your biggest musical inspiration?
TM: The Beatles did everything first, and they did it the best.

EW: You’re often compared to Courtney Love?
TM: I don’t wanna be Courtney Love — I wanna be Kurt Cobain. He’s brilliant and his songs are genius. The Hole records are great. Everyone always compares me to Courtney Love because they think we like dress the same and we both have blond hair, wear lipstick and dresses. But I’m sorry, don’t a lot of girls dress like that? I look at Nirvana. I don’t look at Hole.

EW: How do you imagine juggling music and acting?
TM: I’ve been acting since I was 2. I don’t dislike it by any means, but it’s a job to me. It can never be as personal as music, because you’re playing a character and saying someone else’s words. Music is who I am.

EW: Your GG costar Leighton Meester is also trying to launch a music career. Ever talk about it?
TM: No. I’m not really close with my cast. We’re all cordial and nice to each other, but we’re not really friends outside of the set. And we’re doing a different thing: She’s putting out a pop record, which is awesome.

EW: I heard Jenny is going to be MIA for the beginning of next season.
TM: I’m gonna be on tour. But as far as next season goes I don’t really know what’s going on. I don’t wanna talk about that because it’s up in the air. At the end of the season, you’ll see.

EW: I saw you perform in New York City last year, and you seemed to have forgotten to put on pants. What was up with that?
TM: I don’t really like pants, man. I like tights. I’m not really a pants person.

EW: You’re a rocker now — you can choose not to wear pants.
TM: And I do! I choose not to wear pants.

Taylor was interviewed by ‘Entertainment Weekly’ and she talked about music, ‘Gossip Girl’ castmates and her “fight” with Leighton Meester on music. Here is a part of the interview:

Gossip Girl’s wild child rocker Taylor Momsen has dismissed rumours of a catfight with co-star Leighton Meester over their music careers. The 16-year-old Courtney Love wannabe fronts her own alternative band, The Pretty Reckless, while Meester is sticking with a bubblegum pop sound for her upcoming debut album. Momsen reckons any comparisons of their sounds are unwarranted but she loves Meester’s poptastic tracks anyway! “We’re doing a different thing; she’s putting out a pop record, which is awesome,” Momsen told Entertainment Weekly. But Momsen admits she isn’t that close to the rest of the Gossip Girl cast: “We’re all cordial and nice to each other, but we’re not really friends outside of the set,” she said.

TAYLOR Momsen is no party animal!

The Gossip Girl actress — who also fronts a band, The Pretty Reckless, as well as starring in the hit U.S. TV show — says she “cares too much” about her job to hit the town every night.

“I care too much about my job,” said the 16-year-old when asked if she intends to embrace the Hollywood party scene. “I really don’t care about fame and tabloids and all that s**t. It’s so easy to buy into, but it will just destroy you.

“I really care about acting. I also really care about my music, which keeps me happy. I think when you lose sight of what you love, that’s when you can fall off track.

“I don’t like to go out. I don’t like big group situations, I wouldn’t be a party girl, it’s not me. I might play a gig at a club, but I don’t go out to dance clubs. It’s like with drinking and all that s**t, I’m not the kind of person who would find that fun.”

Taylor recently insisted she didn’t become an actress to be a role model for young kids.

“I don’t read that crap that describes me as having an attitude, but I don’t know why that’s a bad thing,” she said last month.

“Attitude is in the eye of the beholder. I didn’t get into this to be a role model for 7-year-olds. I have no interest in doing that, you know? If parents don’t like some of the stuff I do then they shouldn’t let their kids watch me.

“I smoke, so what? Why do people give a s**t what a 16-year-old girl who they’ve never met does? It’s not like I’m sitting there going, ‘Kids, you should go buy a pack of cigarettes.’ When I walk outside with a cigarette and someone takes a picture of it and puts it on the Internet, its not my problem. I’m just living my life and I’m not gonna live my life for other people.”

First Pictures from "Make me Wanna Die" Video!

Taylor Momsen's Band Shoots a Video for Kick-Ass

It was a dark and stormy night for Taylor Momsen and her band, The Pretty Reckless, whose video shoot for their debut single "Make Me Wanna Die" took them from the comfy indoors to a soaking Brooklyn cemetery last month.

"Our shoot day was plagued by a horrible rain storm, but we still managed to venture out into the cold, wet night to film," the 16-year-old Gossip Girl star – and the band's lead singer – tells PEOPLE of the Meier Avis-directed video for the song, which appears on the Kick-Ass movie soundtrack.

The Pretty Reckless will take the stage at the Bamboozle Music Festival on May 1 before joining the Vans Warped Tour this summer.

Gossip Girl Spoiler: Home Wrecker Revealed!

Many fans of Little J love love love her character this season, and watching her become a conniving, backstabbing ... you know. Others absolutely loathe her for the same reason.

Watching her try to steal Nate from Serena in "The Unblairable Lightness of Being" was enough to make your skin crawl, or exchange high fives, depending on your perspective.

Asked about turning Jenny into a home wrecker, Gossip Girl creator Josh Schwartz actually took issue with the terminology, saying that "We think the word speaks for itself."

Hmm. Might Jenny's meddling soon take on a different form?

Jenny has become one twisted little ...

According to E! Online, she's also about to insert herself in the turbulent relationship of her dad, Rufus, and stepmom, Lily. In a big way. Little J "is going to try to do some bad things to their relationship," and then... yes, Jenny Humphrey's going away.

The good news (unless you're really sadistic) is that contrary to some rumors, Little J is not dying. Taylor Momsen will be back for Season Four, at least at some point.
