Taylor Momsen, frontwoman of The Pretty Reckless, strutted onto the BMI stage sporting a sick leather jacket and boots that could kill a man. Her long, blond hair and killer style would have been a little shocking had I not be exposed to The Pretty Reckless prior to today... Taylor's Gossip Girl character Jenny Humphrey is anything but a rock-and-roll badass. Despite being just 18 years old, Talyor is definitely a badass.
Momsen completely owned the stage, hypnotizing listeners with her raw, yet controlled vocals. Usually that kind of wailing grinds my gears a little, but not this time. Nope. I was totally into it. The Pretty Reckless has definitely the perfect balance of edginess and relatability. I'm not sure if that makes sense. What I'm trying to say is that, yeah, the music is a little harder than I normally listen to, but I can still rock out and sing along without feeling like a total poser. I'm not about to buy a spiked collar or anything, but I'll blast their music in my car...and in my room...basically anywhere with speakers and an iPod hook-up. And let's talk about the fans for a second--they're stoked on Taylor. I heard so many people shout "you rock!" which is obviously normal for a concert. But, in this case, I think the shoe fits. More specifically, the knee-high, black leather, mega-buckled, platform boot.
